WBB: Hower's buzzer-beater lifts Rider to first-round win

BUFFALO, NY - Becky Hower's three-pointer at the buzzer lifted Rider to a thrilling 60-58 win over No. 6 seed Loyola in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at HSBC Arena.

A layup by Kara Borel gave the Broncs a 57-54 lead with 1:31 to play, but Loyola scored four straight to regain the lead.

Loyola's Jackie Valderas missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 4.8 seconds left to give Rider one final chance. Hower caught the inbounds pass near halfcourt and released the game-winner just before the final horn sounded.

Rider will take on third-seeded Niagara in a second-round matchup Friday afternoon.
